The University of Vermont (UVM) has announced a significant $1.5 million grant from Casella Waste Systems to support the launch of the Casella Centre for Circular Economy and Sustainability. This innovative centre will serve as a pioneering interdisciplinary hub for research, workshops, and lectures focused on sustainable waste and materials management, resource solutions, climate leadership, and community engagement.
The Casella Centre will be the first research centre launched by Casella Waste Systems. It will provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on research, hosting one PhD student and two undergraduate or M.S. students each year, along with multiple research staff.
UVM interim president Patricia Prelock expressed her gratitude for the grant, saying, “We are deeply grateful to Casella for their investment. The Casella Centre for Circular Economy and Sustainability at UVM will be an international leader in research solutions for sustainable waste and materials management.”
Prelock emphasised the significance of the partnership between UVM and Casella Waste Systems, stating, “This exciting new partnership pairs our world-class researchers and environmental leadership with Casella’s industry expertise to create urgently needed practical solutions for people and planet.”
