The Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business has announced a significant gift of $12.5 million from Michael (MBA ’87) and Tanya Polsky through the Polsky Foundation. This 10-year gift will provide vital support for various initiatives, including competitive prize awards, startup funding, and co-curricular educational programs.

“We are deeply grateful for Michael and Tanya Polsky’s generous gift, which will have a profound impact on our students and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said a spokesperson for the Booth School of Business.

The funds will be used to support a range of activities, including internships, mentoring, and career support for students. Additionally, the Booth School will provide scholarships to as many as five incoming students each year, who will be named Polsky Scholars.

A portion of the gift will also be dedicated to supporting the business school’s energy transition from fossil fuels. This initiative is part of the Polsky Foundation’s broader efforts to promote sustainable energy solutions

“As an energy entrepreneur, I’ve seen firsthand the practical challenges that stand in the way of building energy infrastructure,” said Michael Polsky. “Our gift to the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business supports the next generation of leaders that will build the efficient, cleaner, low-cost, scalable energy infrastructure needed to support America’s technological and energy leadership.”

This gift is part of a larger $25 million donation from the Polsky couple, announced in February, which includes funding to establish the university’s Polsky Energy Transition Leadership Academy.

The Polsky Energy Transition Leadership Academy will provide a platform for leaders to develop the skills and expertise needed to drive the energy transition. The academy will offer a range of programmes, including executive education, research initiatives, and networking opportunities.

Michael Polsky’s commitment to supporting the development of sustainable energy solutions is evident in his words: “We believe that the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business is the ideal partner to help us achieve our goal of creating a more sustainable energy future.”

The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business is renowned for its rigorous academic programs, innovative research, and strong industry connections. This gift from the Polsky couple will further enhance the school’s reputation as a leader in entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability
