12 Major Points Tinubu Made in His Independence Day Broadcast

Recognition of Present Difficulties: Recognising the high unemployment rate and growing expense of living, Tinubu assured Nigerians that the government is pursuing long-term solutions to lessen these challenges.

Sovereignty and National Unity: He underlined Nigeria’s resilience and its capacity to withstand historical adversities like civil war in order to maintain its unity and sovereignty.

Security Accomplishments: Using the deaths of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit leaders as evidence and the restoration of calm to numerous villages, Tinubu claimed that the government had made tremendous strides in the war against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes.

Preparedness for disasters and flood response: In order to avert further tragedies, he cited government measures taken in reaction to flooding, such as the creation of a Disaster Relief Fund and integrity tests for all dams.

Reforms in the Economy: With almost $30 billion in foreign investments attracted in the last year, the administration is adopting economic reforms to correct budgetary misalignments and stabilise the economy.

Energy Shift: The advancement of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for Public Transportation and support for states in obtaining CNG buses were emphasised by Tinubu.

Initiatives for Job Creation: Later in October, the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), which aims to create 2.5 million jobs yearly, is slated to commence.

Boost for Agriculture: Initiatives to increase food production were stated by Tinubu, including the creation of a local tractor and harvester assembly plant and the provision of farming equipment.

Empowerment of Youth: In order to address issues impacting Nigeria’s youth and equip them to actively participate in nation-building, he announced the holding of a National Youth Conference.

Support for Education: With accessible loans, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) aims to support students pursuing postsecondary education.

Acknowledgements and Praise: Tinubu made reference to the impending announcement of the 2024 national awards, which will specifically celebrate important government figures.

Hoping for a Better Future: The President expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome its current challenges and move on towards a brighter future, and he encouraged the people of Nigeria to stay resilient and positive.
