Abubakar Muhammad-Buba was found guilty of killing his father and given a life sentence by a Minna High Court.

On October 9, 2023, Abubakar was charged by the court on allegations of theft, murder, and other offences.

When Muhammad-Buba arrived to collect money from the sale of his father’s land, he was taken into custody by the Korokpa police unit in Chanchaga village.

Muhammad-Buba killed his father by stabbing him with a knife, then dismembered his body, concealing the remains in a bush, and discarding them close to the Tagwai Dam water source in Chanchaga, according to the case that was given in court.

Muhammad-Buba then proceeded to notify Naje Mohammed SD Mambo, the head of the state’s mineral extraction association and a close colleague of his father, that his father had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom.

Muhammad-Buba also told his father’s acquaintance that the kidnappers had freed his father after he got the ransom money, but that he was hurt and required medical attention at Gwagwalada hospital.

Mambo later reported Muhammad-Buba to the police after learning that he had been deceiving him.

Muhammad-Buba was given a life sentence by the presiding judge, Mohammed S.A. Mohammed, because the prosecution proved in court that he was the one who killed his father.

Mohammed claimed that he could have sentenced Muhammad-Buba to death for the seriousness of the crime, but in an act of mercy, he chose to sentence him to life in prison.
