The Federal Government, through its Renewed Hope Initiative, has commenced the distribution of empowerment items to 18,500 women across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The initiative, managed by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with the office of Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, aims to promote poverty alleviation and increased entrepreneurship activities.

At the launch of the distribution in Lokoja, Mrs. Tinubu announced that 500 women in each state, including the FCT, would benefit from the initiative. Represented by Kogi governor’s wife, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, Tinubu explained that the North Central zone would be the first to benefit, receiving items such as freezers, gas cookers, generators, and industrial grinding machines.

“This empowerment will benefit 18,500 women nationwide. The North Central zone will be the first to receive these items,” Tinubu said. “We recognize the vital role women play in nation-building, and this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic growth, inclusivity, and sustainable development.”

Tinubu encouraged beneficiaries to use the resources responsibly to grow their businesses, contributing to the nation’s prosperity. Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, SSA to the President on SDGs, described the initiative as a significant step towards empowering women across the country.

“Today’s programme is about more than distributing items; it’s about unlocking potential and fostering economic independence,” Orelope-Adefulire said. “The President is committed to achieving the SDGs in Nigeria, and this initiative is crucial in fostering sustainable livelihoods.”

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the federal government’s support, with Dorcas Olayemi from Kabba-Bunu LGA saying, “This is the first time we’ve received such support to truly address poverty at the grassroots. It will greatly improve our livelihoods.
