In Lagos State, Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME candidate Opesusi Faith Timilehin took his own life.
After consuming “Push Out” rat poison, the 19-year-old reportedly passed away on Monday after receiving a score of 190 on the recently released Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam.
Timilehin, who lived in the Ikorodu neighborhood of Lagos State with her older sister, reportedly took the same test in 2024 and performed better than she did this year, according to the Guardian newspaper.
An eyewitness explained that the deceased, at her sister’s office, asked palm oil to ease the pain she was going through after ingesting the poison at home.
“But her sister, who didn’t initially know the cause of the pain, ignored her and later raised an alarm after Timilehin confessed on the way to the hospital that she had taken poison at home,” the source stated.
“The shocking revelation is that she was given an admission message via her Gmail yesterday, immediately after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital, Odogunyan,” the source added.
According to ZINGTIE, UTME is a computer-based test that was first administered to prospective Nigerian undergraduates by JAMB in 1978.
