The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that a fire broke out at a hotel housing Nigerian pilgrims on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
In a statement released by Fatima Sanda Usara, the Assistant Director of NAHCON’s Information and Publication Division, the fire reportedly occurred around midday on Saturday, according to Saudi local time.
The hotel involved, Imaratus Sanan, was accommodating approximately 484 Nigerian pilgrims who had traveled through six different private tour companies. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and all pilgrims were reported to be safe and currently in Mina valley, participating in one of the key rites of Hajj.
“Immediate emergency response by Saudi authorities and the hotel management helped to contain the fire swiftly and prevent it from spreading all over the building”, the added.
In response to the incident, NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh, along with other officials, promptly visited the location to assess the damage and coordinate appropriate measures.
As a precaution, the Chairman has ordered the immediate relocation of all affected pilgrims to alternative lodging. He also gave assurance that the Commission will collaborate closely with the involved tour operators to ensure the necessary support is provided to those impacted by the incident.
