Dr. Femi Adekanmbi, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), states that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State is “dead on arrival.”

ADC, according to Adekanmbi, lacked legitimacy and workable policy alternatives to the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement released in Akure on Monday, the politician questioned the opposition’s campaign approach in light of Tinubu’s current accomplishments.

He claimed that two prominent opposition leaders, Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had acknowledged that if elected president, they would have eliminated fuel subsidy.

Adekanmbi emphasized that Tinubu discontinued the Federal Government’s monthly borrowing of billions to maintain fuel subsidies, freeing up funds for development.

He gave Tinubu’s policies credit for raising state allocations by around 250 percent, which allowed states to pay off outstanding debt and employee salaries.

“No state owes workers’ salaries anymore, unlike in the past when arrears spanned months,” he said.

He urged the ADC to make clear where it stands on important issues.

“Will they reinstate fuel subsidy, reduce state allocation, or revert to the dual exchange rate system under former CBN Gov. Godwin Emefiele, where dollars were sold at favourable rates to selected individuals for black-market profiteering,” Adekanmbi asked.

He questioned whether the ADC would cease university funding, risk academic strikes, or reverse progress on the minimum salary, which is now set at about N30,000. He also questioned whether the ADC would abolish the Student Loan program.

“Since Tinubu’s administration began, we have not witnessed the prolonged ASUU strikes of the past,” he noted.

Adekanmbi also commended Tinubu’s “naira for crude” strategy, which strengthened the naira by doing away with the dollar-based crude oil trade.

In order to isolate Nigeria from the international economy, he questioned whether the ADC would revoke local government sovereignty, reintroduce the two-year passport processing backlog, or stop accepting Naira cards abroad.

In order to improve food security, Adekambi asked if the opposition will stop ongoing irrigation and dam restoration projects run by the Federal Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources.

According to Adekanmbi, the ADC has little prospect of winning both in the state and nationally.

“They are complaining because it’s no longer business as usual. Free money from subsidies, CBN dollars, and unexecuted contracts are gone,” he stated.

He said that the Tinubu Support Group, TSG, Ondo State Chapter, will shortly begin its efforts to inform the public about the advantages of Tinubu’s leadership.

“Tinubu has done much to uplift the underprivileged and rebuild an economy damaged by past mismanagement.

“Nigerians will reject the opposition when campaigns begin.

“He urged citizens to hold state governors and local government chairmen accountable for not utilising increased allocations effectively.

“Thanks to Tinubu’s subsidy removal, states and local governments now receive substantial funds.

“Citizens must demand accountability from these leaders, not the Federal Government, which is fulfilling its role,” he said.
