2027: Atiku is hijacking ADC – Kachikwu

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is allegedly plotting a premeditated takeover of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in order to further his 2027 presidential aspiration, according to Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Recall that prominent opposition leaders, such as Abubakar, former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, and former transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi, announced a coalition under the ADC’s aegis to run in the 2027 elections.

During a news conference in Abuja on Friday, Kachikwu charged that Atiku and others had deceitfully manipulated Obi and the ADC leadership into joining the coalition.

He asserts that Obi is under pressure to agree to serve as Abubakar’s running mate and emphasizes that his men have been placed in key positions within the party’s national leadership in order to maintain its hold.

Despite his claims of southern affinities, the former presidential candidate insisted that Atiku does not think any Southerner is deserving of the presidency.

“I had warned that a group of mostly old former political officeholders were executing a carefully orchestrated agenda to take over the ADC to prosecute Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition come 2027.

“I also warned that Peter Obi and other presidential hopefuls in this coalition of geriatrics were being duped, as Atiku’s men had been carefully positioned to take over the ADC party structure across the country,” he said.
