Bello El-Rufai, a federal legislator and son of Nasir El-Rufai (former governor of Kaduna State), has responded to rumors about a potential switch from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in light of the 2027 general elections.
After a social media user urged him to switch from the APC to the ADC, the lawmaker reacted.
Bello firmly rejected the suggestion in his response, stressing that he does not allow online pressure to influence his political decisions.
He cited his electoral win in Kaduna North as the foundation for his position, reminding critics of the mandate given to him by voters and emphasizing that his main loyalty is to the people he represents.
Referring to his win, he wrote: “Bello El-Rufai wins Kaduna North Rep seat with 51,052 to defeat the PDP candidate, Samaila who polled 34,808 votes. El-Rufai’s son sets a record by being the first candidate to win all 12 wards in Kaduna North.”
He asserted that the mandate belongs to the 51,052 constituents who chose him, rather than to voices on social media.
Bello further stated that a directive from his father, whom he called “Mallam,” was the only circumstance that could lead him to leave the APC.
“If Mallam asks me to leave the APC, I’ll resign the seat tonight. I can be non-Partisan. My people adore me,” he said.
He also issued a challenge to the social media user, stating: “If you can persuade the 51,052 people who gave me this mandate, I’ll transfer 10 million to you tonight. Do you possess an app for confirmation?
Bello reiterated his profound respect for his father while emphasizing his allegiance to the administration of Kaduna State under Governor Uba Sani, whom he referred to as his “boss,” dismissing any notion of disloyalty.
He disclosed that after he had gone to a public event with his father, he went straight to a Kaduna APC caucus meeting with the governor and the Speaker. He characterized this action as deliberate and symbolic.
Bello highlighted the opportunities he has acquired within the APC, emphasizing that the party has enabled him to work alongside high-ranking public officials, such as Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Addressing political ethics, he declared: “I will never publicly go against governor and I will not plan his demise. It is called honour.”
