The governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that the Labour Party (LP) will not participate in any coalition in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
Otti stated that the Labour Party already functions as a coalition of Nigerian workers and progressive-minded individuals.
After the Labour Party’s national executive committee meeting in Abuja on Saturday, Otti told journalists that there are no plans to join any coalition.
“Labour is already a coalition. This is the coalition of Nigerian workers and people who are progressive like-minded.
“So, I know when people talk about joining another coalition. We have no such plans,” he said.
A few days after the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja affirmed the removal of Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman, the LP NEC meeting takes place.
The Court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge the National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman as the legitimate leadership of the party.
The governor of Abia State confirmed this on Saturday, stating that the electoral umpire had complied with the court order by removing Abure’s name from its website and replacing it with Mrs. Usman.
In the meantime, Abure labelled the court’s decision as unacceptable and pledged to seek redress from the Court of Appeal.
