The Allied Conservative Congress (ACC) has demanded that a South-East Nigerian be elected President of Nigeria in 2027, claiming that this will maintain Nigeria’s unity.
The Igbo people have not produced a Nigerian president since the killing of Gen. Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi on July 29, 1966, according to Olusegun Peters, the party’s chairman, who made this statement at the inauguration of the Abia State executives of the party in Umuahia.
Under the leadership of Ibrahim Abdullahi, the ACC National Vice Chairman for the Northwest, Peters revealed that no Igbo person has held the nation’s top seat since the restoration of democracy 25 years ago, with North and South West each holding the position twice.
The newly inaugurated executives were congratulated for their steadfastness by National Vice Chairman, North-Central, Hon. Illya Juan; National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq; and National Vice Chairman, South-East, Hon. Vincent Eberechukwu, in separate remarks. They expressed hope that the newly elected executives would lead the party to victory in the upcoming elections.
During his remarks, Onyekachi Uwalaka, the interim State chairman of ACC, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the new state administration and pledged that the party will realign itself in order to secure legislative seats and the governorship in Abia in 2027.
Among the other key officers inaugurated were Dr. Innocent Ikoro, the party secretary, and Dr. Jiwuba Peter, the state vice chairman.
