Ahead of the 2027 elections, Jigawa State’s PDP stakeholders have begun to take action to improve party cohesion.

The action was made public when members of the Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, who included previous council members and ward representatives, convened a special meeting to examine challenges impacting the party and ways to strengthen it at the state’s local and ward levels.

Speaking to reporters in Birnin Kudu, Ado Nagoda, a former councillor from Surko Ward, revealed that the Association of Former Councilors of the PDP Birnin Kudu LGA had organized the gathering to foster unity and togetherness among party members.

He claims that all of the former council members, party leaders, and representatives from the eleven local government wards attended the meeting. He clarified that they believed it was essential to unite in order to stop the party from becoming divided.

The conference became necessary to curb the activities of some members who wanted to create factions inside the party, he added, adding that they also discussed matters that may strengthen the party at the local and ward levels.

Despite the recent defections, Nagoda reassured everyone that the PDP’s structure is still in place and asked members to stick together to guarantee the party’s victory in next elections.

He emphasized that despite waves of defection at different points in time, the party maintains its organizational integrity.

He lamented the actions of certain party members that threaten the party’s cohesion.

He explained, “Some members lacking in true democracy have been going round political wards to divert the attention of supporters into camps for their personal ambitions.”

He said the purpose of the conference was to remind members of the party’s basic principles, which were advocated by former Governor Sule Lamido and were based on good administration, true democracy, and strong leadership.

Nagoda emphasized that members must stay committed to what he referred to as the party’s beliefs.
