2027: We’re not aware of coalition, Abure tenure has expired – Labour Party

Ahead of the general elections in 2027, the Usman Nenani-led group of the Labour Party, LP, states it is unaware of any coalition.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Friday, the party’s factional interim national secretary, Darlington Nwokocha, said that the LP has its own internal structure and has not joined any such alliances.

In an effort to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the general elections of 2027, Nwokocha separated the party from the alliance led by the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

According to ZINGTIE, the coalition includes opposition leaders from the ADC, including Nasir El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.

“Well, I don’t know about that, and I don’t know if we are in the ring; they’ve not told me that.

“When you talk about coalition – already Labour Party has the machinery of internal coalition. The Labour Party is getting extremely stronger,” he said.

Regarding Peter Obi’s involvement in the coalition efforts, Nwokocha clarified that although the former governor of Anambra is still revered as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, his appearances do not signify the party’s entry into any alliances.

Additionally, he confirmed that Julius Abure’s term as National Chairman had ended, attributing the rise of the temporary leadership to a political mishap.

Nwokocha used the adage, “That you place your picture in a place does not make you the owner of the place,” in response to the question of whether he was concerned that Abure was still listed as chairman on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) website.

He stated that Abia State Governor Alex Otti was a valid member of the NEC in accordance with the party’s constitution in response to a query on Otti’s role during Friday’s NEC meeting.

Along with confirming that INEC was properly informed of the NEC meeting, Nwokocha also disclosed that Usman, the party’s previous women leader, had an emergency and would return before the weekend was over.

In his remarks about settling the internal crisis, he maintained that the courts had already rendered a decision on the matter.
