According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the general elections in 2027 will serve as a referendum on the shortcomings of the federal government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

As it vowed to hold the government responsible for its failures, it criticized the APC for how it handled governance, economic hardship, and insecurity.

Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, made this claim during a Wednesday interactive session with reporters in Abuja.

Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP was presenting itself as a viable substitute to save Nigeria from the propaganda and erroneous policies of the APC.

He highlighted the incapacity of the APC government to tackle important national issues, pointing to growing economic hardship and insecurity.

Over 600 Nigerians have been killed in the past two years, according to the PDP scribe, who also accused the government of being unconcerned about the suffering of its people.

“In two years, over 600 Nigerians have been killed. That’s on record. This government celebrates defection like it’s celebrating successful policy, that’s an indictment,” he said.

Along with criticizing the APC’s economic policies, the party chieftain questioned the justification for the $24.5 billion loan request to mitigate the effects of the elimination of subsidies.

He maintained that more than 100 million Nigerians now had to make due on less than $2 per day since the administration has not produced noticeable results.

“The president asked for a $24.5 billion loan to cushion the effect of subsidy removal, two years after. Where is the money? We were told subsidy removal would free up funds, where are the results,” he asked.

Ologunagba spoke on democracy and denounced the APC’s purported preference for a one-party state, calling it a danger to Nigerian democracy.

He emphasized the necessity of strong opposition and accountability while restating the PDP’s dedication to multi-party democracy.
