2027 will be dark, dangerous – Mahdi Shehu

Mahdi Shehu, a political activist and public affairs analyst, has forewarned Nigerians that the 2027 election season will be dangerous, chaotic, and unpredictable.

He called the political environment “difficult, dicey, dark, dangerous, and chaotic” in a message that was posted on X on Sunday.

The mix of politicians engaged, according to Shehu, will make things extremely tense.

“When characters with different history, similar records, diverse views, and unending appetite for power seek to dominate the political platform once again, one should expect a dangerous terrain,” he wrote.

“When sworn enemies and documented rivals bury their enmity and venoms against each other for the sole aim of grabbing power in an already polarised polity, then one should expect nothing short of CHAOS.

“When characters who had the opportunities in the past to make maximum use of power for the benefit of the citizenry, but failed to do that, descended into the political arena for selfish reasons, then expect more DARKNESS in politics.

According to him, the political struggle will be complex because many leaders repeatedly re-enter power at hurricane, train, light, plane, or ship speeds, demonstrating a great desire to maintain control under any circumstances.

Politicians will use any and all tactics, legal or illicit, to seize power, he said, including resources, extortion, threats, betrayal, assassinations, and arrests.

He claims that this will make things even more “DICEY.”

But Shehu reminded Nigerians that God alone has the final say, even in the midst of chaos.

“The Almighty God had long ago decided who will be what at all times and under all circumstances, no matter the chaotic situation, however the desperation irrespective of the darkness, uncertainty and dicey circumstances.”
