Usman Okai Austin, a public affairs expert, stated on Tuesday that Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, ought to allow Nigerians make the decision over President Bola Tinubu’s future in 2027, not him.
El-Rufai’s statement that Tinubu cannot win the 2027 presidential race coincides with Okai’s call.
He called the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) “ego-driven” and “pure sour grapes.”
Sharing on Facebook, Okai penned: “El-Rufai doesn’t care about Nigeria, he cares about Nasir El-Rufai.
“Let Nigerians decide Tinubu’s fate in 2027, not El-Rufai, who talks like God and tries to usurp the people’s power.”
Okai asserted that Governor Uba Sani, El-Rufai’s successor, had methodically destroyed his political significance.
The expert claims that El-Rufai misread political undercurrents but expected Sani would stay loyal after supporting him as his successor.
“This is the same El-Rufai who manipulated his childhood friend, Uba Sani, into becoming his Chief of Staff, then weaponised him against Shehu Sani, despite the fact that Uba and Shehu are brothers.
“Blood proved thicker than water,” he wrote.
By characterizing El-Rufai’s downfall as “poetic justice,” Okai portrayed a man who was once feared but is now despised.
By characterizing El-Rufai’s downfall as “poetic justice,” Okai portrayed a man who was once feared but is now despised.
“Once a kingmaker, he is now a discarded pawn — used, dumped, and left seething with rage.”
Additionally, he referred to El-Rufai’s contentious ministerial nomination—which was turned down during Senate screening—as a “unprecedented disgrace.”
To make matters worse, Uba Sani allegedly proposed his own candidate for Kaduna’s cabinet position, ignoring El-Rufai’s preferred choice.
Okai pointed out that the former governor seems to have been totally marginalized by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“There were no calls, no reconciliation. Just cold, calculated disregard,” Okai wrote.
The analyst claims that El-Rufai’s response has included media appearances and public rants.
Questioning if anyone is still listening, Okai said, “Now, El-Rufai is on a revenge tour — granting interviews, crying betrayal, and desperately trying to explain himself.”
The post also accused El-Rufai of fostering religious imbalance and managing rampant instability, which contributed to Kaduna becoming Nigeria’s first Muslim-Muslim ticket state.
“He had the audacity to advise Tinubu to replicate his divisive strategy.”
“But Tinubu outplayed him. Shettima got the VP slot. The ministerial dream collapsed.”
El-Rufai’s history of political strife was also brought up by Okai, who mentioned his criticism of former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Musa Yar’Adua as well as his propensity to substitute devoted family members for political allies.
“Had Tinubu made him a minister, or had Uba Sani remained his puppet, El-Rufai would be singing his praises today.”
“But now? He’s just another bitter ex-governor, thrashing in the political gutter, screaming for relevance.”
