The Minderoo Foundation, based in Australia, has announced an additional commitment of A$5 million ($3.15 million) to support local-led recovery efforts in Ukraine, reaffirming the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. This latest pledge brings the foundation’s total contribution to A$20 million ($12.6 million) since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
The new funding will focus on regions severely impacted by Russian aggression, including Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa. It will support de-mining efforts in agricultural areas, prioritizing rural land near schools and early childhood centers. Additionally, the funding will provide assistance to households most affected by the war and bolster peace-building and community cohesion initiatives
Minderoo Foundation founder Andrew Forrest emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine, stating, “The invasion of one country by another is wholly offensive to civilization. Ukraine has every right to protect its borders, and the international community will be extremely shortsighted if it does not stand with Ukraine.”.
This commitment is part of the Minderoo Foundation’s broader efforts to support Ukraine. Previously, the foundation had committed A$14 million in critical aid to Ukraine, including projects to enhance food and energy security as well as protect and develop children
