Sue Ryder’s Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham has raised an impressive £36,532 through its Christmas tree collection scheme in Gloucestershire. The charity collected 1,579 trees from around the county after Christmas in exchange for donations.

This local effort contributed to a national total of £166,777 raised by Sue Ryder’s Christmas tree collection schemes across the country. According to the charity, this amount will enable Sue Ryder hospices to provide 6,671 hours of care to those in need.

The collected trees will be repurposed to generate energy or transformed into wood chippings to create a bluebell walk on the hospice’s grounds.

Alysia Cameron-Price, Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, expressed her gratitude for the public’s support. “As Sue Ryder continues to face rising costs to deliver its care, and with the increasing number of people in need of our support, your contributions are more crucial than ever,” she said.

Cameron-Price also acknowledged the vital role played by volunteers in the scheme’s success. “Around 100 volunteers offered their time to support the collections, making this incredible fundraising achievement possible,” she added.

The hospice’s annual Christmas tree collection has become a staple of its fundraising efforts, consistently generating thousands of pounds in donations. In addition to providing palliative care, Sue Ryder offers bereavement support through its online community forum and free bereavement counselling service.
