777: Police react to ‘cult day’ celebration in Anambra

Anambra State police have issued a strong caution against the state’s observance of “Cult Day” on Sunday.

According to state police command spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, there are rumours that cultists are going to mark their day on Sunday. He underlined that there will be dire repercussions for anyone caught in connection with this.

Ikenga said in a press release: “To this end, the Command cautions hoteliers, bar proprietors, and managers of event/recreation centers to be vigilant regarding such gatherings in their premises, as there will be repercussions for non-compliance.”

“Parents and guardians are also urged to advise their children to uphold the law and refrain from actions that could disturb the peace in the state.”

The command reaffirmed its determination to prosecute anyone engaged in cult-related activities or any conduct that compromises state security under the recently passed Anti-Cultism Law.

Ikenga added: “Information received indicates that a group of criminally minded individuals, under the guise of Cult Day, have planned a celebration tomorrow, July 7, 2024.”

“This event is notorious for its violence and bloodshed. The police command advises these individuals or groups to immediately desist, as we are constitutionally mandated to safeguard lives and property and will not permit such elements to undermine the progress achieved in combating cult-related incidents. Offenders will be dealt with decisively.”

“The police and other security agencies remain steadfast, committed and dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the state at all times.”
