Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has revealed how some Northerners allegedly plotted his removal from office during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a post shared on his Facebook page late Saturday, Lawal stated that his close relationship with Buhari unsettled many individuals who feared that the late former president was preparing him for a higher political position.

He claimed that the assignment to remove him from office was handed to certain Northern Senators, who allegedly subcontracted the task to well-known legislative hatchet men.

According to him, the legislative hatchet men went on to recruit sympathisers and collaborators within the executive arm of government as well as in the media.

He further stated that Buhari refused to listen to a high-powered delegation sent to him over the matter, stressing that they became determined to remove him from the influential office of the SGF at all costs.

“They did all manners of things to make sure that I was removed. They felt that Buhari had no business appointing me because I was from the small tribe of Kilba and a Christian.

“I will save them the shame by not naming them here because the main contractor himself later apologized to me in the presence of three of our common friends.

“As a good christian that I strive to be, I forgave him right there at the meeting and it has remained so ever since,” Lawal said.

It would be recalled that Lawal was removed as SGF during the first tenure of the late President Buhari.
