Abia: Police probe clash at popular entertainment spot in Umuahia

Mr. Emmanuel Okenini, the CEO of Delatinos Concept Limited in Umuahia, has stated that he lost music equipment valued at 150 million naira after police allegedly broke into his entertainment center on Sunday.

He said that the invading policeman hurt his employees and clients and damaged the equipment.

This came after a fight between several police officers and De Latinos employees, during which tear gas was used inside the establishment, sending a number of employees and patrons to the hospital.

De Latinos claims that in accordance with the company’s existing regulations, a police officer wearing a mufti was stopped from entering the center by the security personnel for carrying a suya wrap he had purchased elsewhere.

The workers of the entertainment center objected to the officer’s insistence on eating the suya inside, which led to an altercation.

The police officer allegedly called additional officers, who then invaded the facility and started using tear gas, according to the testimony. Customers fled for their lives as a result, and several suffered injuries of varying severity.

The management of De Latinos claims that during the altercation, live music instruments were also destroyed.

Danladi Isa, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, paid a visit to the location of the event on Monday.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Abia Command’s Police Spokesperson, confirmed the visit and said that certain De Latinos employees and police officers are currently being questioned at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Umuahia.

DSP Chinaka pledged to keep the public informed about the investigation’s findings.

But Emmanuel Okenini, the owner of De Latinos Concept, maintains that justice is all he desires.
