Actors Guild of Nigeria gives fresh update on Junior Pope

The death of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, also referred to as Junior Pope has been confirmed by Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN.

According to ZINGTIE, the late actor and three of his coworkers plunged into the Anam River in Anambra on Wednesday while they were returning by boat from a filming location.

Rollas revealed the tragic development on his Instagram page on Thursday, writing, “It is so so sad that our joy was shortlived.”

“My first post was out of excitement when we noticed his tingling fingers. Two notable hospitals tried their best to revive him but to no avail.

“God knows the best. We finally lost him,” he said.

Junior Pope joined the Nollywood industry in 2006, according to ZINGTIE, and began attending film auditions and acting in minor roles.

In films, he typically portrayed bodyguards, palace attendants, and servants.

He gained notoriety in 2007 after acting in Tchidi Chikere’s hit Nollywood film “Secret Adventures.”

He acted in over 150 Nollywood productions, including the films “Mad sex,” “Secret Adventures,” “Bitter Generation,” “Vengeance of Bullet,” “The Cat,” “The Generals,” and “Wrong Initiation,” among others.

At the Entertainment Factory Awards in 2010, he won the Nollywood Most Promising Actor in Nigeria prize.

Alongside Emma Ehumadu, Sylvester Madu, Zubby Michael, Jim Iyke, Alaso Wariboko, Gentle Jack, Hanks Anuku, and Jerry Amilo, he is renowned for his acting in films as a hitman, criminal, villain, and armed robber.

He also won Best Actor of the Year at the Africa Movie Academy Awards and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, among other honors.
