The Confederation of African Football, CAF has formally rejected a protest from the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) regarding supposed violations by the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

CAF made this known in a statement on their official website on Wednesday.

Morocco appealed to CAF under Articles 82 and 84 concerning Senegal’s behavior in the AFCON final.

The focus of Morocco’s protest was on alleged breaches of Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON Regulations, particularly concerning the AFCON final.

According to Article 82, any team that withdraws, refuses to play, or leaves the field before the match concludes without the referee’s permission must be deemed the loser and eliminated from the competition.

This principle is underscored by Article 84, which states that a team infringing these provisions shall be definitively eliminated, and the match will be credited to the opponent with a score of 3–0, unless there is already a more advantageous score recorded.

These regulations reflect exactly what happened in the final, where Senegal temporarily left the pitch amidst tense and chaotic scenes.

Nonetheless, after carefully examining the evidence and context related to the allegations, the CAF Disciplinary Board determined that the basis for maintaining the protest was inadequate.

Morocco was defeated by Senegal in the AFCON final, with a score of 1-0 after 120 minutes of fierce competition.

In the first half of extra time, Pape Gueye netted the only goal of the match, leading to the Teranga Lions being crowned African champions.
