After Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja’s death was confirmed, Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa, who is residing in Finland, made a statement that caused controversy.
Ekpa claimed, “I told you people, there is nothing I have said that didn’t come to pass! I said, he will never return, I told you he is dead. They didn’ t want to validate me, but at the end, shame on them.”
Given Ekpa’s history of making controversial remarks, this statement has drawn criticism. He has previously been connected by the Imo State Police Command to attacks on local government buildings that caused fatalities and property damage.
The veracity of Ekpa’s claim to have foreseen Lagbaja’s demise has not been established, and its implications remain uncertain. It is important to remember, too, that Ekpa has been a strong supporter of Biafran independence and frequently uses his position to attack the Nigerian government.
The Nigerian government has tried to eEkpa from Finland after his acts were criticised. Ekpa is still seen as a leader by some of his supporters, and he continues to play a significant role in the Biafran cause.
Ekpa has been implicated by the Imo State Police Command in the recent attack on the headquarters of the IsialaMbano Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of two local vigilante members and the burning of many vehicles. The persistent tensions between the Nigerian government and Biafra agitators have been brought to light by this occurrence, which has caused global worry.
