Following the tragedy that occurred in the Unubi village in the Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State during the course of the previous week, a trigger-happy shooter has been taken into custody in the state.

According to reports, the suspect broke into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nwokedi, a teacher couple in the neighborhood, on Tuesday night and brutally shot their 15-year-old son, Somtochukwu Nwokedi, before raping the sister.

The masked attacker, who was carrying a pump-action rifle, reportedly scaled the family’s compound’s fence and shot the youngster in the chest at close range as soon as he saw him. Then he took Somtochukwu’s sister and r@ped her until he was satisfied, and then he ran away by going back the way he had come.

The Somto, an SS1 student at Monsignor Memorial Secondary School in Nnewi, had just returned home on Sunday, two days before to the incident, to spend the Easter holidays with his parents, who are both local teachers, according to information obtained by this reporter, Izunna Okafor. According to family members, he was a bright and ambitious youngster who had previously attended St. Charles College in Onitsha.

Residents of the town are in disbelief as they try to understand the horrific attack, and the family is in profound mourning as a result of the occurrence.

In addition to confirming that the police had been informed and were immediately looking into the matter, Somto’s older brother sobbed as he repeatedly stated, “We need justice.”

In a phone chat with this reporter, Hon. Nduka Nchidem, the councilor for Unubi Ward, also confirmed the occurrence and reiterated that the police are already investigating.

This reporter’s attempts to contact the deceased’s parents have not yet been successful.

However, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, verified the regrettable occurrence and disclosed that the suspect had been taken into custody when this reporter reached him on Friday.

He claims that Chidiebere Mbene, the suspect, is presently being held by the police and being questioned.

SP Ikenga reiterated the Command’s dedication to prosecuting the offender and promised that more details would be shared as the investigation developed.
