In an interview with The Vanguard, Nigerian politician and former PDP member Alphonsus Bosah Chukwurah Nwosu, better known by his stage name ABC Nwosu, questioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration style.

He voiced alarm over the rising level of insecurity in the South-East and negatively compared it to the government of the PDP era.

Nwosu said the situation was extremely unpleasant when questioned about the underlying causes of the instability afflicting the South-East geopolitical zone. He remembered a day when the area was considered to be among the safest in the nation.

He claimed that the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu was one of the reasons for the decline in security.

He quickly clarified, though, that he did not think Kanu was directly to blame for the disturbances.

He said, “How many people know that Chu Okongwu (former Minister of Finance) is buried? Dr. Chu Okongwu is my relation. When we put him on the ground, not more than five of us were there. Two of his children who were in America said, those who are in Nigeria should share his things. They don’t want anything. They will not see anything again in Nigeria.”

Nwosu went on to discuss how insecurity affected George Obiozor, the former Nigerian ambassador to the United States. He recalled that some people had arrived to engage in negotiations before setting his house on fire.

He said that one of the homes that was damaged was that of George Obiozor, who was coming from his first round of treatment for a prostate disease at the time of the incident. According to Nwosu, Obiozor grieved like a child for the loss of his treasured library rather than the loss of goods.

When Obiozor finally died, he said, he thought that the former envoy had, in a way, died twice: first when his home and library were set on fire, and again when he passed away from his sickness.

Nwosu explained that he was unable to determine with certainty if the individuals in question were Igbos or members of IPOB. He ended by saying that George Obiozor was one of the nicest people you would ever meet.
