Akwa Ibom govt honours Troost-Ekong for outstanding AFCON performance

William Troost-Ekong, the vice-captain of the Super Eagles, received recognition from Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, for his outstanding performance during the just-finished 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Akwa Ibom State native Troost-Ekong was a standout player for Nigeria in the AFCON 2023 finals.

The Super Eagles center defender, who scored three goals, was voted Player of the Tournament.

The 30-year-old was also named to the Team of the Tournament by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

During a reception at the government house in Uyo on Thursday, Troost-Ekong gave Governor Eno a Super Eagles jersey as a thank-you for the state’s continuous encouragement and support.

The defender had earlier visited Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, at his office in Abuja.
