Alex Otti bags a big appointment in Labour Party

The Labour Party LP has formally recognized Abia State Governor Alex Otti as its national head and congratulated the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on his transition to the coalition Action Democratic Congress, (ADC).

Darlington Nwokocha, the party’s National Secretary, stated this in a statement.

It reported that the decision was made during a meeting of the Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Wednesday.

The summit addressed issues concerning the party’s stability, expansion, and strategic direction.

“The NWC, in a unanimous decision, affirms its recognition of His Excellency, Governor Alex Chioma Otti, as the National Leader of the Labour Party,” the communique partly read.

“The National leadership of the Labour Party wishes His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi success in his future political endeavors and in his new political affiliation.”

The party also announced that former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman has been named its National Chairman.

LP stressed that it supports the Supreme Court decision of April 4, 2025, which determined that Julius Abure’s time as National Chairman had ended.

The party urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant Usman and Secretary Nwokocha full rights and privileges as outlined in the court’s verdict.

“The NWC reaffirmed that all congresses and the National Convention of the Party shall proceed in strict compliance with the Party Constitution.”

“Members at all levels are encouraged to actively participate in these congress processes,” the communique added.

The LP thanked its members and the Nigerian public for their continuing support and confidence, emphasizing that the party is united, indivisible, and unwavering in its objective to establish a Nigeria based on equal opportunity, social justice, and good governance.
