Alumni association empowers young minds with vocational training in Lagos

The Vetland Grammar School Old Students Association 03 Set has successfully concluded its maiden Vocational Training Programme, held at the school premises in Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos. Over 130 junior and senior secondary school students participated in the six-day program, gaining hands-on experience in various skills such as:

Vocational Skills:

    – Baking: Students learnt how to bake and decorate cakes, with one participant, Eniola Grace Ayoola, a JSS2 student, saying, “I can now bake and decorate a cake without fear. I feel ready to start my own small business.”

    – Fashion Designing: Onakoya David, a JSS2 student, and Mudashiru Aanuoluwapo from SS1 both expressed excitement, saying, “I never knew I could make a dress on my own until this week.”

    – Photography: Adeyemi Mariam, a JSS2 student, noted, “I learnt skills I never thought I’d understand, and I want to keep practising even after school.”

    – Architecture, Shoemaking, and Plumbing: Students received practical training in these areas, equipping them with valuable skills for future careers

The programme, supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Education, District 1, featured motivational talks from alumni, education officials, and former teachers. Mrs Akinfolarin, representing the ministry, commended the programme’s quality and encouraged students to remain committed, saying, “The organisation and standard of this programme is impressive. I encourage you to take what you have learnt seriously because these skills will serve you for life.”

Vice Chair of the set, Bernice Aganoke Osai, emphasised the importance of applying the skills learnt beyond the classroom, stating, “The real success of this programme will be measured by how well you continue to practice and apply these skills in your daily lives.” With its successful debut, the VETOSAN 03 Set aims to make vocational empowerment a tradition for future generations of Vetland students.
