The Police Command in Anambra has rejected any involvement in the escape of two suspects allegedly connected to the murder of Mr. Justice Azuka, a lawmaker in the State Assembly.

Azuka, a member of the Labour Party (LP), represented the Onitsha-1 Constituency before he was tragically killed by suspected kidnappers.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, issued a statement on Thursday in Awka to clarify the situation.

Ikenga emphasized that the police cannot be the same group that risks their lives alongside other security forces to arrest criminals responsible for the brutal murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, only to sabotage the process.

“Remember that we had earlier paraded these suspects for residents of the state and the world to see.

“We are owning up to our responsibility, no doubt. Nevertheless, our main focus now, while we are still interrogating the officers involved in these operational lapses to face serious sanctions, is to re-arrest the suspects on the run.”

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the two suspects were among several arrested by the joint security forces in connection with the lawmaker’s murder, before they escaped from police custody during an operation to capture another individual linked to the crime.
