Anonymous Donor Honors Dr. Gerald Maguire with $10 Million Donation to SLU

Saint Louis University’s School of Medicine has received a transformative $10 million gift from an anonymous donor in support of medical education and research. The donation was made in honour of distinguished alumnus Gerald A. Maguire (SOM ’91), who also pledged $100,000 to his alma mater.

The generous gift is allocated across three key initiatives: $5 million to establish a cutting-edge health education centre, enhancing students’ educational and training experiences; $3 million to create the Gerald A. Maguire, M.D., and Joanne S. Maguire School of Medicine Cura Personalis Endowed Deanship, attracting and retaining visionary leaders; and $2 million to fund the Gerald A. Maguire, M.D., and Joanne S. Maguire Endowed Chair in Neuropsychiatry Research and Education, bolstering research and academic excellence in mental health.

Gerald Maguire, a renowned psychiatrist and director of residency training in psychiatry at College Medical Centre, expressed his gratitude to SLU. “As a person who stutters, I am forever grateful to Saint Louis University School of Medicine for believing in my potential as a physician beyond my challenges with verbal communication,” Maguire said. “The SLU School of Medicine provided me a foundational education not only in the science of medicine but also the arts and ethics to practice and teach in my profession.

Maguire’s accomplishments are a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering exceptional medical professionals. As a leading authority on the pharmacologic treatment of stuttering, Maguire’s work continues to make a profound impact in the field of neuropsychiatry
