Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-GNY) has announced a significant $20 million gift from an anonymous donor to support affordable housing initiatives in the New York metropolitan area. The generous donation will seed a Housing Innovation Fund (HIF), enabling VOA-GNY to rapidly deploy capital as it develops affordable housing projects.
To further bolster its efforts, VOA-GNY will establish a Real Estate Advisory Council comprising volunteer leaders with expertise in real estate, government, urban planning, law, and social services. This council will inform and contribute to the organisation’s housing and community development strategy.
VOA-GNY President and CEO Jeffrey R. Ginsburg praised the donor’s generosity, stating, “At a time when all levels of government are struggling to apply sustained attention to a growing list of intractable issues, we must acknowledge the power of nonprofits like VOA-GNY to be catalysts for responsible and sustainable solutions at scale.”
Ginsburg added, “In a moving demonstration of generosity, modesty, and social responsibility, this anonymous donor is modelling for the philanthropic community how to strike at the heart of the housing and homelessness crisis.” The gift is expected to make a significant impact on VOA-GNY’s efforts to address affordable housing needs in the region
