The Arewa Youth Council, or AYC, has formally distanced itself from a recent statement that was attributed to a man named Adams Reuben and disparaged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The group claims that Reuben is neither a member nor an official representative of the organization.

On April 18, 2025, the contentious publication, titled “Arewa Youths Blast Atiku Over Attacks on Tinubu, Say Ex-VP is Bitter, Hypocritical,” made its appearance in a number of national newspapers, causing media attention and public outrage.

However, in a sharply worded statement issued on Friday, the AYC criticized the remarks and reaffirmed its position.

Reuben Adams, who falsely claimed to be the president of the Arewa Youth Council, is an impostor with no connection to the council, according to a statement signed by Mallam Abdullahi Bilal, the group’s publicity secretary, and Ambassador Dogo Shagari, the legitimately acknowledged president of the council.

“Even though we are not interested in the content of the said statement, we wish to categorically state that the individual known as Reuben Adams is not a member of our organization and has never held any position within the Arewa Youth Council,” Shagari stated.

The AYC warned that such impersonation could mislead the public and cause needless political conflict, characterizing Adams’ conduct as unlawful, deceptive, and possibly deadly.

The group demanded that Reuben be the subject of an inquiry and prosecution for impersonation and related offenses by the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other pertinent security authorities.

The Arewa Youth Council reaffirmed its dedication to youth development and national unity, and disassociated itself from any remarks that could incite hatred, foster division, or jeopardize Nigeria’s peace and stability.

Additionally, it called on media outlets to confirm the veracity of individuals claiming to represent for major organizations before airing their statements.

“For accurate information and official updates, we urge the public to rely solely on communications issued by the duly recognized leadership of the Arewa Youth Council,” the group concluded.
