August 1 protest: Nigeria’s Finance Minister Edun reveals Tinubu’s fear

The main worry of President Bola Ahmed, according to Finance Minister Wale Edun, is how to protect the progress his administration has made over the previous 15 months, which is scheduled to coincide with a hardship protest on August 1, 2024.

At a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Edun made this revelation.

He claims that in order to maintain Nigeria’s economic recovery momentum, the president wants protesters to remain nonviolent.

Edun stated that Tinubu is aware of Nigerians’ worries and is working nonstop to provide long-term answers.

“He is concerned that the protests will remain peaceful and orderly, such that the gains that have been made over the past 12 to 15 months should not be dissipated. The momentum that has been achieved in the Nigerian economy should not be dislodged, disturbed or dissipated.

“I think, amongst many other well-meaning Nigerians, the President truly understands the concerns that are being expressed, particularly the high and limited cost of living, which is not beneficial to Nigeria at this stage,” he said.

Just a few hours before the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, the minister made a statement.
