Mohamed Elneny, a former Arsenal midfielder, has predicted that his fellow countryman and Liverpool’s leading scorer, Mohamed Salah, will win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

Salah was outstanding for Liverpool last season, netting 34 goals and assisting 23 times across 52 matches for the club.

The Egyptian star played a key role in helping Arne Slot’s squad secure the Premier League title during the 2024-25 season.

At 33 years old, Salah also renewed his contract with Liverpool in April.

Elneny, who used to play for Arsenal, told Al Emarat Al Youm that Salah serves as an inspiration for Arab athletes.

“I hope Salah wins the Ballon d’or. He’s role model for Egyptian and Arab players in terms of commitment & professionalism,” said Elneny.

The former African Footballer of the Year is included in the 30-player shortlist recently announced by France Football, the event’s organizers.

To claim the award, Salah will face competition from players like PSG’s Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, who are also on the list.
