On Saturday, Senator Ibrahim Lamido’s Education Trust Fund conducted a screening test and interviews for scholarship awards to indigenous students from the Sokoto East senatorial district who lost their parents to banditry. The successful candidates will study at Maryam Abacha University in Kano.

The students, who are orphans, were drawn from eight local government areas in the Sokoto East senatorial district, where insecurity has rendered many families homeless, livestock rustled, and farms destroyed.

Hon. Kabiru Shehu Sarkin Fulani Goronyo, leader of the committee, stated that the selection process is based on merit, regardless of political affiliation. “The committee will choose the most qualified and best candidates for various degree programs,” he said.

Senator Lamido’s commitment to the development and prosperity of his constituents and humanity is unparalleled, according to Sarkin Fulani. “We acknowledge his resilience and passion for the progress of his constituents in the Sokoto East district through various empowerment and support programs.”

He urged other elected individuals to emulate Senator Lamido’s humane gestures, adding that all successful candidates would enjoy comprehensive support until they complete their studies.

The screening exercise, which will last for three days, aims to provide opportunities for disadvantaged students to access quality education. Umar Gigane and Abubakar Ali Isa, former APC chairmen of Gwadabawa and Isa LGAs, respectively, urged students to take advantage of the rare opportunity and study hard to achieve excellence.

Hajiya Hauwa’u Muhammed Achida, Sokoto East Zonal Women Leader of the Senator Ibrahim Lamido Support Group, praised Senator Lamido’s inclusive approach and his championing of women’s development. “We have seen a pathfinder in Senator Lamido, who has overwhelmingly championed the cause of women’s development socially, economically, and politically.”

This initiative follows Senator Lamido’s previous sponsorship of 43 students from the district to study at an Indian university.
