Due to accusations of misbehavior and disdain for party values, a few officials of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Abia State chapter have suspended Mr. Don Norman Obinna, the party’s state chairman.
The announcement came at a Friday harmonization meeting of the party’s various factions in Aba, when the participants suspended Obinna while petitions against him were looked at.
Following the meeting on Friday, Okoroafor Kanu, the party’s interim chairman, told reporters that Obinna’s management style alienated party members.
Kanu claims that after discussion, the decision was made to suspend Obinna and that a resolution was approved to form a disciplinary committee, which he currently leads, to look into the claims.
However, some members of the party, such as Rev. Blessed Amalambu, the ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate for the Umuahia North constituency, have vigorously contested the suspension.
Amalambu said that the panel that suspended the ADC Chairman lacked legal support and rejected the procedure employed in the suspension as unlawful and untrustworthy.
Speaking anonymously, another party stalwart stated that any attempt by other parties to drive out original ADC members will fail.
At a recent meeting in Umuahia, Mr. Don Norman Obinna asserted that he was still the legitimate Chairman of the ADC in Abia.
