A historic law giving sex workers the same rights as other workers was passed in Belgium on Sunday.
Sex workers are entitled to benefits including maternity leave, pension contributions, and legal protections against exploitation because the new law guarantees that they are considered as employees.
Months of protests in 2022 over the state’s lack of support for sex workers during the COVID-19 pandemic led to the decision.
For the first time in any nation in the world, the historic change seeks to provide sex workers with increased legal recognition and labour protections.
