Boko Haram intercepts another trucks carrying foodstuffs in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP militants have reportedly intercepted another convoy of trucks carrying food supplies to Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to Daily Trust, the attack happened on Saturday along the Monguno–Guzamala route, specifically between Burmari and Garin Kashim villages in Guzamala LGA.

Sources revealed that the assailants stopped two articulated trucks and three tipper trucks loaded with beans heading toward Maiduguri. The militants allegedly set the truck heads ablaze before escaping into nearby vegetation.

One of the drivers recounted that he fled into the bush, abandoning his vehicle as soon as the attack started.

He also suggested that the attackers were likely the same group responsible for an earlier assault on trucks transporting maize and construction materials in the area about five days prior.

Another witness explained that the gunmen first released air from the tyres before setting the vehicles on fire. He said local residents managed to extinguish the flames before they spread to the main bodies of the trucks, enabling the drivers to get away safely.

Drivers using the route expressed concern over the lack of security presence, pointing out that, unlike other high-risk roads in the state, there are no strategically positioned military patrols along that stretch.

Due to the recurring incidents, several truck owners have reportedly stopped sending their vehicles through the area.

A security source indicated that the insurgents’ aim is to disrupt commercial transportation and undermine government efforts to resettle communities along the corridor.
