Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface was unable to find the net as his team suffered a 5-1 defeat to Flamengo’s U-20 side in a pre-season friendly on Friday.
The match marked Erik ten Hag’s debut as manager of the former Bundesliga titleholders.
Ten Hag, who was dismissed by Manchester United in October, has taken over from Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen ahead of the new season.
The former Ajax coach selected a strong lineup for the match, maintaining Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 formation. New signing Mark Flekken, Jonas Hofmann, and Boniface were all included in the starting eleven.
Flamengo’s youth team dominated the first half, leading 4-0 by halftime.
Lorran netted the opener, and a failed clearance from Arthur resulted in an own goal.
Flekken and Boniface were taken off in the 36th minute, shortly before Matheus Goncalves and Pedro Leao increased the lead.
Gusttavo added a fifth goal, while Montrell Culbreath scored a late consolation for Leverkusen.
