Phil Shuaibu’s impeachment as Edo State’s deputy governor has been overturned by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a ruling on Wednesday, Justice James Omotosho declared Shuaibu’s return to office, citing the Edo State House of Assembly’s supposed impeachment of him as a violation of due process.
When Shuaibu heard the judge’s rulings in court, he shed tears of joy.
According to Justice Omotosho, the House of Assembly’s premise for the impeachment proceedings was an unfounded legal accusation that did not amount to gross misconduct.
The judge mandated that the IGP give him the security he needs to return to work and carry out his official duties till the conclusion of his term.
The appointment of Shuaibu’s replacement as deputy governor was annulled by Justice Omotosho.
