When the military drove vehicles into Rivers Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday night, no one knew where Governor Siminalayi Fubara was.

On the first night of President Bola Tinubu’s declared state of emergency, the trucks were positioned both inside and outside the Government House.

In response to the attacks on oil installations in Rivers State, Tinubu proclaimed a state of emergency.

In the event that the Rivers House of Assembly impeached Fubara, several militant organizations had threatened to blow up pipelines.

However, the extremists fulfilled their threat just hours after the parliamentarians informed the governor of the alleged misbehavior.

In response, the president appointed a state administrator and suspended Fubara and the lawmakers for six months.

Following the proclamation, armored vehicles were spotted at key points along the road leading to the Government House gate, while roughly ten military trucks patrolled the route leading to the main gate.

As locals tried to return to their homes, the road that led to Government House from the well-known UTC intersection was empty.

Our reporter was informed by a Port Harcourt resident who requested anonymity that military trucks were present throughout the neighborhood.

“The road leading to Government House from the Issac Boro park to the popular UTC is deserted. Residents are making efforts to get back to their respective homes as nobody wants to be caught in a cross fire. I saw about 10 military trucks parading the road leading to Government House. There are other armoured tanks that have been stationed at both entrance road leading to Government House,” the sources said.

Although sources from Government House told our reporter that the governor might have a premonition of the state of emergency, our reporter was unable to verify whether Fubara had left Government House as of the time of publication.

According to the source, the governor met with the suspended state executive council members multiple times during the day.

In a brief phone conversation with our reporter, a former Commissioner stated that he was unable to speak for an extended period of time due to a meeting with the governor. He promised to call back later, but as of the time of writing, he had never done so.
