Alassane Ouattara, the president of Ivory Coast, announced Tuesday that French troops would leave the country.
Speaking to the nation at the conclusion of the year, Ouattara stated that Ivorians should be proud of their own armed forces’ modernisation.
“In this context, we have decided on the coordinated and organised withdrawal of French forces,” he said.
According to sources, France has been thinking about lowering the number of its troops in West and Central African nations, such as Ivory Coast, from the current 2,200 to 600.
Remember that due to military takeovers and growing anti-French sentiment in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, France has already withdrawn its troops from those nations.
Similarly, the Chadian government, which is a key Western ally in the fight against Islamic militants in the region has also ended its defence cooperation pact with France in November.
