The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced it’s premium motor spirit pump price to N890 per litre from N945 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This represents a reduction of N55 per litre and has been reflected in various NNPCL retail outlets across the city.
According to an NNPCL fuel attendant, who spoke anonymously, “It was reduced to N890 per litre this afternoon, down from N945.” The development follows a similar price adjustment by a Nigerian filling station, MRS Empire Energy, which reduced its fuel pump price to N885 and N946 per litre from N910 and N955 per litre.
The latest fuel price reduction trend appears to be independent of the recent price adjustment by Dangote Refinery, which reduced its ex-depot petrol price by N30 to N820 per litre from N850. The price of crude oil in the international market also does not seem to be directly connected to the reduction.
The NNPCL’s decision to reduce fuel prices may provide some relief to consumers in Abuja and potentially other parts of the country. However, the impact of this reduction on the broader economy and fuel prices nationwide remains to be seen.
