BREAKING: Tinubu suspends Minister Betta Edu over N585.189 scandal

Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has been suspended from her position by President Bola Tinubu.

Remember that the Presidency had stated that the relevant authorities were looking into the financial irregularity pertaining to the Minister’s transfer of N585.189 million?

Following the probe, the president’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, promised to take the necessary action.

According to the ZINGTIE, N585.189 million that was intended for people in need in the states of Lagos, Ogun, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom was purportedly transferred into a private account.

Many people were outraged by this and demanded that Edu be sacked and put on trial.

In a widely circulated letter, which Edu signed and addressed to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the minister instructed that N585.189 million be deposited into the personal account of one Bridget Mojisola Oniyelu.

The money was deposited into Oniyelu’s account, according to the leaked document.

In response to the public outcry, Edu stated that the payment was made in accordance with the law in a statement sent by Rasheed Zubair, her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
