The acting vice-chancellor of the university, Sunday Samuel, has announced that the institution will soon commence intake for the 2024/2025 academic session. Speaking at a recent event, Samuel revealed that the admissions will begin with a quota of 120 students, pending final approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“We are still awaiting final approval from the NUC, and we will adhere strictly to the approved quota to avoid previous mistakes,” Samuel said. The acting VC also noted that the wait for final approval applies to resuming admissions into the Medicine and Surgery programme

Samuel highlighted some of the university’s recent achievements, including a monthly subvention increase to N500 million last November. He also announced that the Edo governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed the school management to reinstate all staff who were politically sacked by the defunct Special Intervention Team (SIT).

The university’s senate has also approved a policy aimed at enhancing efficiency and responsiveness in handling certificates and transcripts. “As a result, graduates now receive their certificates immediately after graduation,” Samuel said. He added that the longstanding issue with transcript applications has been resolved, with implementation ongoing to ensure satisfaction among alumni.

The VC also highlighted the College of Medicine’s progress in addressing inherited challenges, including the swearing-in of Set 18 and the 2020/2021 medical doctors session, the induction of 810 nurses, and solving indexing and examinations issues for MLS students.

Furthermore, Samuel announced that the state government has approved three major building projects for the university, including a 1,500-seater lecture theatre, a twin 300-capacity lecture theatre, and a 600-bed hostel. These developments are expected to enhance the university’s infrastructure and provide a better learning environment for students.
