Bride devastated after husband takes his life a day after their honeymoon

After a brief romance that started on a dating app, Isabel Coles, 32, recently married 28-year-old Christopher Coles in September 2024. At the Sea Hear Now music festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the music-loving couple celebrated their marriage with a beachside honeymoon.

A distraught woman has expressed her sorrow after her husband committed himself the day after their honeymoon, only to have flowers delivered to her on Valentine’s Day months later.

Isabel Coles, 32, tied the knot with 28-year-old Christopher Coles in September 2024 following a whirlwind romance that began on a dating app. The pair celebrated their marriage with a beachside honeymoon at the Sea Hear Now music festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where they were united by their mutual love of music.

According to Isabel, the couple was “insanely happy” and didn’t appear to be having any problems.

But Christopher, a serving military officer, started acting strangely the day after they got back to their Southern Pines, North Carolina, home.

Isabel said he remained up all night arranging preparations for their forthcoming wedding reception, but the next morning, something felt strange.

“He was folding laundry and acting a little weird,”Isabel recalled.“I asked him what was wrong, and he said ‘nothing’.”

Shortly afterward, armed with a pistol, he entered a nearby woodland. Isabel tried desperately to pursue him, but he vanished.

His father found Christopher’s body in the woods the following day.

Isabel was stunned. “We were so happy. There were no signs,”she said. “He was successful, driven, kind — I just didn’t see this coming.”

After a bouquet of flowers that she had ordered months before Christopher’s death arrived at her door on Valentine’s Day 2025, she called the florist and found out that he had scheduled the delivery because he would be away on military duty at that time.

“He knew he might be deployed,” Isabel said. “He always wrote to me every day when he was away, telling me about his day, asking about mine — even when I couldn’t respond. That’s who he was.”

The couple had legally married in a courthouse ceremony in September and were organizing a larger celebration with family and friends.

Christopher had even proposed romantically after running a marathon. Isabel claimed that their love story was full of laughter, music, and hopes for the future, but she has had to deal with harsh judgment in the wake of his death.

“Some people say it’s my fault or that I shouldn’t have shared our story,” she said. “But I know we were happy. No one can take that from me.”

Now a mother of one, Isabel is getting ready to run the Chicago Marathon in October to honor Christopher and to raise awareness of mental health issues while also collecting money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“There’s a part of me that is gone forever, but I want people to know that even those who seem strong and happy can be battling invisible struggles. He didn’t do it to hurt me — he just thought people would be better off without him. But that’s never true.”
