BUA Cement Plc’s Sokoto plant has distributed free drugs worth millions of naira to 16 community hospitals and clinics in Wamakko Local Government as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
According to Engr. Yusuf H. Binji, Managing Director of BUA Cement, “the gesture is in line with our CSR initiative of giving top priority to offering free drugs to our host communities, allowing them to access pharmaceuticals at their hospitals and clinics at no cost.”
Mr. Sada Suleiman, Assistant Director of Admin and Corporate Services, represented Binji at the flag-off ceremony. Suleiman stated, “We acknowledge and appreciate the enormous and genuine support and cooperation of our host communities and the state enjoyed over the years.” He emphasised that BUA is dedicated to giving back to its host communities, adding value to their relationship for mutual benefit.
BUA has ensured proper monitoring mechanisms are in place to ensure the drugs are utilised effectively. Binji thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for his support and advice, assuring that BUA will continue to support the state’s health-related requirements.
The company also plans to commission seven solar boreholes across the state and provide full school uniforms to five primary schools in the host communities. However, Binji warned that the drugs must not be sold but given free of charge, stating, “BUA Cement, in collaboration with Wamakko Local Government, will monitor the utilization of the drugs and administration free of charge.
Umar Dani Tureta, Director of Health, representing the Local Council Chairman, commended BUA Cement for providing essential drugs and ensuring qualitative healthcare services. “We appreciate your support to our health facilities with essential drugs and other basic health needs. I assure you that we will make judicious use of the drugs and ensure distribution free of charge to our people as desired,” he said.
Alhaji Mai lato Gumbi, Ardon Wajake, praised BUA Cement for being sensitive to its responsibilities and contributing to the development and benefit of the host communities. “We are proud of BUA Cement for being sensitive and alive to its responsibilities for the development and benefit of our communities,” he said.
This initiative is part of BUA Cement’s ongoing efforts to support its host communities, having previously donated items worth N115 million to communities in Sokoto State. The company has also invested N360 million in various community projects and scholarships in Sokoto.
