A peace agreement has been reached by five candidates running in the next bye-election in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

On Wednesday, the peace agreement was signed at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Oyo State headquarters.

Dexter Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adewale Haastrup Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olabisi Olajumoke Odususi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Fola Sunday Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) are the five candidates who signed the peace deal.

Security chiefs, political party leaders, and other interested parties attended the occasion.

According to our source, the bye-election is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The last incumbent of the seat, Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, passed away, leaving a vacancy that needed to be filled by an election.

At the age of 51, Akinremi passed away last year.

Speaking to the crowd, Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Adeniran Rahmon Tella stated that the peace agreement was required to guarantee a free and fair election.

The commission is dedicated to holding a credible election, he continued.

Throughout the election process, Adeniran urged the candidates and their backers to uphold a high standard of civility and sportsmanship.

He said, “On behalf of the Independent National Electoral Commission, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to this significant event – the official signing of the Peace Accord for Ibadan North Federal Constituency Bye-Election.

“This gathering demonstrates your commitment to promoting peace, stability and credibility in the electoral process. The signing of this Peace Accord is a crucial step towards ensuring a free, fair and transparent election.

“As we embark on this critical process. I urge all stakeholders to adhere to the principles outlined in the Peace Accord. Let us work together to create an environment that allows voters to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”
